Once the exam is complete, Dr. Kurtz talks with the patient and makes recommendations for a comprehensive treatment plan. After answering questions and receiving input from the patient, the process begins as implants are surgically placed in the jawbone under local anesthesia.

The amount of healing time is different for each patient and depends on variables such as the quality and quantity of bone, as well as the type of implant placed. When Dr. Kurtz determines that the patient has healed adequately, he will use the implant to support a crown, bridge, or denture—completing the process.

Are there different types of dental implants?

The American Dental Association accepts two types of dental implants: the endosteal and the subperiosteal.
